Design and Simulation of Microstrip Antenna on High-Temperature Super Conductor and Copper

In this paper theoretical comparison of the efficiency of planar microstrip antenna for normal metal copper and high temperature superconducting (HTS) metal is discussed. Expressions for electrical conductivity and surface impedance in copper and high-temperature superconductor YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 are evaluated at 10GHz frequency. Direct fed rectangular microstrip patch has been selected for the comparison. The electrically small antenna has been designed at 10 GHz frequency on high permittivity substrate LaAlO 3 with a low dielectric loss tangent. The radiation patterns at 10GHz and the radiation efficiency as a function of frequency for microstrip antenna have been compared using software simulation.
