摘要
•Here we report new fossil human footprint discoveries at Formby Point, England.•Age, sex, stature, direction of travel and speed were calculated for 17 trackways distributed across four localities. There was a mixture of young children and adults at the site.•Individuals were making repeated visits travelling either inland or towards the coast.•Comparisons with experimentally captured footprints of modern humans have suggested that two of the individuals were walking briskly, perhaps jogging.•The footprints are exposed and then rapidly destroyed by erosion. We encourage local researchers to work with the public as ‘citizen scientists’ to aid the recording of future discoveries.
