Genetic data of 22 autosomal STR loci in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Gilgit Baltistan population of Pakistan using PowerPlex® fusion system

•In this article we have provided, allelic data for 22 autosomal STRs, their frequencies, and the forensic statistical parameters of 601 unrelated healthy individuals from Pakhtuns, Balochi and Balti population of Pakistan.•The most discriminatory locus was Penta E in all groups and allele 15 was most frequent at D22S1045 in Balti whereas allele 8 was common at TPOX in others.•Furthermore, the population differentiation and phylogenetic relationship among Pakistani samples and other nationalities were analysed.
