•The visual processing of minimal social (two-body) scenes is investigated.•Behavioral and neural effects show signatures of visual configural processing.•Individual performance in body-dyad perception is reliable and stable-over-time.•And it predicts the individual's social sensitivity.•Body-dyad perception exposes basic processes that may contribute to social cognition.
