•Adults with Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) have higher prevalence of comorbidities compared to the general population.•Increased mortality is attributed to both defect complexity and comorbidities.•Focused interventions for comorbidity prevention and management among ACHD may help reduce morbidity and mortality.
