A fast finite sample count symmetric component extraction method for use in grid side converters

•A novel algorithm is proposed for fast extraction of symmetrical components.•The proposed algorithm has output settling time in the range of couple hundreds of μs on real up to date hardware platform.•The proposed algorithm is based on assumption of slow-varying grid frequency, measured by adequate low-bandwidth method.•Experimental validation using Typhoon HIL402 shows the effectiveness of the fast symmetrical components extraction in voltage unbalance condition.
