•This work intends to document the progress made in genomics led strategies for important biotic and abiotic stresses in cucumber.•Elaborated possible interventions based on available genetic resources and genomics-based tools.•All the genes/QTLs and associated molecular markers identified for important stresses in cucumber is tracked.•Functional characterization of the identified genes associated with important biotic and abiotic stresses in cucumber is reviewed.
