Rain Effect on Backscatter from a Deterministic Sea Surface in Ku Bands

Ring waves caused by raindrops enhance the surface wave spectrum in microwave band. A RW-SDFSM method (Ring Wave modulated Semi-Deterministic Facet Scattering model) for Ku band backscatter simulation of a deterministic sea surface with rain is presented based on a facet two scale scattering model combined with ring wave spectrum modification. The normalized radar cross section (NRCS) results by our model are coincident with the backscatter measurements. Scattering coefficient distributions for sea surface with and without rain in Ku band are illustrated.
