Psychological distress and resilience among italian healthcare workers of geriatric services during the COVID-19 pandemic

•The COVID-19 pandemic exposed healthcare workers of geriatric services to heavy workload and psychological distress.•Psychological resilience seems to play a protective role against distress especially for professionals working in frontline healthcare services•Interventions to promote and support healthcare workers’ resilience can counterbalance the pandemic related distress, especially for women and for the professional categories of nurses and physicians.
