Experimental investigation of the mechanism of isolated liquid film flow in spray cooling

•The isolated liquid film is defined by the interval of Awet of isolated films statistically.•The Marangoni effect dominate the internal liquid film flow.•The wall jet, thermocapillary and inertia force both contribute to the external film flow.•Bo, We, Re and Bw numbers of isolated film flow are obtained and analysed.
