摘要
Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChEIs) and the N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antagonist memantine are widely utilized worldwide in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Although AChEIs and memantine are considered to be relatively safe medications, it is important for clinicians to be aware of potential side effects, as failure to recognize medication induced adverse effects can lead to a significant reduction in quality of life, inappropriate prescribing cascades, or even death. With increased awareness of uncommon side effects, recognition and appropriate management can occur more quickly. As a new addition to the Side Effects of Drugs Annual series, this chapter captures the literature regarding adverse effects of AChEIs and memantine over the past 5 years.
