Temporal stability of associations between crash characteristics: A multiple correspondence analysis

•Associations among crash characteristics are probed based on data distribution.•MCA and chi-square distance analysis are used to investigate temporal stability.•We found a number of variations and trends in the associations.•Associations among crash characteristics are more temporally stable after 2 years.•The study provides a basis for optimal policymaking despite unstable data.
