•Arthroscopy performed before total lower extremity arthroplasty substantially increased the revision.•THA patients with prior arthroscopy were also associated with an increased risk of dislocation.•Patients should be counseled on the potential increased risks associated with conversion total lower extremity arthroplasty after prior arthroscopy.
