Predicting metallic armour performance when impacted by fragment-simulating projectiles – Model adjustments and improvements

•Nine penetration models were reviewed for accuracy in predicting a plugging ballistic limit.•Results from > 650 tests used to evaluate model performance.•Several adjustments were proposed to improve the performance of those models.•The adjustments improved agreement with measured ballistic limit velocities for all materials.
