•Electromediated reactions can be modelled as gas absorption with chemical reaction.•This has been shown for the regeneration of NAD(P)H by a rhodium bipyridium complex.•Current values for Rh(III) reduction led to the redox chemical reaction rate constant.•Fast kinetics of the redox reaction allows easy modelling of batch NADH regeneration.
