Highly accurate monotonicity-preserving Semi-Lagrangian scheme for Vlasov-Poisson simulations

•Monotonicity Preserving semi-Lagrangian schemes is based on Lagrange interpolation.•The existing and the proposed MP schemes are reformulated in a common framework.•The MP scheme controls the L1 norm, with some limited degradation of the L2 norm.•Numerical study is performed for 1d constant advection and Vlasov-Poisson simulation.
