摘要

•GO or rGO can be used as sole photocatalyst for Cr(Ⅵ) reduction under visible light.•UV-irradiation modified the structure and improved photocatalytic activity of GO.•1h-irradiated GO exhibits good repeatability and the highest photocatalytic efficiency.•Defect density and sp2 domains are the key factors for photocatalytic activity of GO.
