•Tarocco orange selections were evaluated for the long-period cold storage aptitude.•Physiological disorders, weight loss, physical-chemical parameters were evaluated.•Four new selections were the most suitable for long-period cold storage.•Anthocyanins levels increased differently among accessions during the storage.
