A meta-analysis of hormone administration effects on cooperative behaviours: Oxytocin, vasopressin, and testosterone

•Positive effect of oxytocin administration, negative effect of vasopressin administration, and nonsignificant effect of testosterone administrations on cooperation.•Participants with mental dysfunction were less sensitive to oxytocin and vasopressin administration.•Oxytocin administration was most effective on in-group situations and for initial choices, serving as a neural underpinning of the Tit-for-Tat strategy.•The hormonal effects were sensitive to both biobehavioural and task factors.
