Judgments of spoken discourse and impression formation of neurotypical and autistic adults

•The study examined first impressions of the speech of ASD and NT adults (Speakers) by other ASD and NT adults (Raters).•Raters evaluated Speakers using a Likert scale targeting first impressions of seven discourse features.•ASD and NT Raters both formed less favorable impressions of the spoken discourse of ASD Speakers.•There are specific linguistic features that distinguish the speech of ASD and NT adults.
