•The Dapingzhang deposit shows similarities with Kuroko-type deposits in Japan.and is intimately associated with extensive submarine sodium-rich felsic volcanic rocks.•The rhyolites erupted at 413.2–430.7 Ma, revealing that the ore-related magmatism took place in the mid-late Silurian.•The felsic volcanic rocks were likely formed by partial melting of the juvenile lower crust incorparted with minor amounts of asthenospheric mantle components.•The Proto-Tethys Ocean may have been bipolar-subducted beneath the Sibumasu and Indochina blocks, respectively.
