A DWT-SVD based robust digital watermarking for medical image security

•The proposed approach is a hybrid scheme based on a discrete wavelet transforms and singular value decomposition.•The proposed approach being blind, the watermarked image is sufficient to identify the patient.•The integrity of the extracted information can be verified by comparing the hash embedded in the image.•Our approach allows insertion of a large amount of data while preserving a reasonable imperceptibility.•In terms of robustness, the two variants are resistant to filtering and compression attacks while maintaining a good NCC.
