Joint Optimization of Transmission Source Selection and RSU Cache for Vehicular Video Streaming.

Since video data occupies the most majority of total network data, how to solve explosive growth of video data demand has become the main challenge of current network research. In this paper, we propose a transmission architecture that combines roadside base stations and adjacent vehicles as the transmission source to alleviate the transmission pressure of BS and meet the low delay demand for real-time video transmission. In order to satisfy different requirements for video clarity, we apply scalable video coding (SVC) to encode the video. We propose to optimize RSU cache and transmission source selection based on the user’s request. To solve the problem, we present a heuristic algorithm which achieves an approximation ratio of 1 - 1 / e . Experimental results show that our scheme is effective in improving quality of experience (QOE) and overall resource utilization.
