Extending quantum systems with optical interconnects (invited)

ABSTRACTAs quantum systems scale, the challenge of connecting qubits with high fidelity communication links looms large. In the short term, traditional VLSI packaging technologies are being adapted to the unique material constraints of the various qubit systems. In the medium term, enhanced control and cryogenic technologies can expand quantum systems using existing engineering knowledge. Longer term, quantum interconnects that can connect modular quantum computing nodes require new science for interface technology and computing protocols. In this talk, I will discuss these general issues from the perspective of scaling IBM superconducting qubit systems.
