Does personality problems increase youth suicide risk?: A characteristic analysis study of youth who visit the emergency department following suicide attempt

•Youth suicide attempters were diagnosed with personality disorder more frequently than adults.•Youth showed more chronic problems, high impulsivity, and repeated suicide attempts.•Interpersonal problems accounted for the highest percentage of direct causes of youth's suicide attempts.
