A Numerical Simulation Method for Thermodynamic Characteristics of Phase Transition of Rocket Plume Particles

Abstract A new numerical method was proposed to describe the thermodynamic process of solidification and melting of alumina within discrete phase model (DPM). In this method, mushy region model which usually used in energy engineering was introduced in the calculation of phase transition and the effect of latent heat was calculated by defining the specific heat capacity of alumina particles. According to the comparison between cases which were no particle case, pure solid particles and phase transition involved case, several impacts on the flow field by particles were presented. The effect of solidification and melting process was concluded as the temperature lag around the melting point of alumina.
