Hydrothermal Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Thermal Property of a Coordination Polymer Constructed by Ce(III) and Succinate Ions

A new three-dimensional coordination polymer [Ce-2(C4H4O4)(3)(H2O)(2)](n)center dot 3.2nH(2)O, constructed by Ce(III) ion and succinate ion and lattice water molecules has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. It crystallizes in triclinic system, space group P (1) over bar with a = 7.8865(6), b = 12.0260(8), c = 12.2598(9)angstrom, a = 112.456(2) degrees, beta = 90.046(2)degrees, gamma = 100.423(2) degrees, M-r = 722.14, V = 1053.73(13) angstrom(3), Z = 2, D-c = 2.276 g/cm(3), mu= 4.35 /mm, F(000) = 696, GOF = 1.029, R = 0.0203 and wR = 0.0570. The asymmetric unit contains two Ce3+ cations and both of them are nine-coordinated and their coordination geometries can be described as two distorted monocapped square antiprisms. In the title compound, a three-dimensional coordination network with one-dimensional hexagon honeycomb-like channels along the a axis is generated. TG measurement has been carried out, and its result analysis along with the powder XRD determination indicates the residue to be CeO2.
