Symptoms of anxiety, depression, and borderline personality in alcohol use disorder with and without comorbid substance use disorder

•Symptoms of anxiety, depression, and borderline were investigated in an AUD sample.•Four groups were included: controls, AUD-only, AUD/CUD, and AUD/oSUD.•The AUD/oSUD group presented with significantly more symptoms.•BPD accounted for all variance in SUD symptoms associated with trait anxiety and some variance associated with depression.•Results suggest comorbidity of AUD + SUD, and BPD, is associated with more problems.
