•Influence of fatty acid on stability and bioavailability of Asta-E was evaluated.•Enzymatic hydrolysis of Asta-E plays a key role in its bioavailability.•Asta-ME had higher bioavailability than F-Asta and Asta-DE.•Asta-C22:6 had highest bioavailability among all Asta-Es.
