Designing an expert systems course for business computer information systems professionals

The article describes a systematic process which develops an expert systems course to educate business computer information systems professionals, with emphasis on both theoretical and applied aspects. The process includes: (1) identifying the field of practice in expert systems; (2) identifying a belief in the career of prospective business computer information systems professionals; (3) establishing an educational philosophy which emphasizes the need to promote both theoretical and applied aspects in expert systems study; (4) reinforcing some important topics which are to be stressed in the course; and (5) selecting appropriate teaching methods. An implementation of this approach in a university setting is briefly discussed.
