Automated detection of diabetic retinopathy using convolutional neural networks on a small dataset.

•Early detection of Diabetes-1 and Diabetes-2 from the transfer learning-based CNN architecture on color fundus photography.•Overfitting issue in CNN is resolved using the transfer learning technique and hence small datasets can be used for analysis.•A contrast enhancement pre-processing technique is used to preserve the brightness for effective analysis.
