We propose a three-dimensional (3D) volume drawing interface that can easily create various organic and artistic models. In seeking for the intuitiveness, the proposed system adopts an analogy of the potter’s wheel, one of the commonly used manufacturing methods. To realize so, hand gestures are captured through a 3D depth camera, so that the user can interact with the model in the mid-air. At the same time, wheel’s rotation, which is physically controlled by a user, is synchronized with that of the virtual space. Through this configuration, our interface provides a novel modeling functionality that enables simultaneous drawing and view-control. Additionally, as the shape of a brush imitates the hand gesture, there could be numerous possible variations in brush shape, which makes our system highly flexible and intuitive, and hence maximizes the expressiveness. Through such a system, designers and artists can easily transfer their knack to virtual modeling interface. ! Keyword !
