摘要
As a basic study for the utilization of fragrances in car cabins, the physiological effects of fragrances (odors) were examined in a visual search task simulating the acquisition of visual information while driving. Behavioral, physiological, and subjectively reported indices were analyzed to estimate the effects of odor while performing the task. The results suggested that the mental strain caused by the task was attenuated by the effect of odors on the modulation of the autonomic nervous system, and as a result, fatigue was reduced without impairment of performance. It was also assumed that this effect might be triggered with a change in breathing patterns caused by the odor.
