•(Ti + C) ions co-implantation into the Cr-coated CSS-42L bearing steel was studied.•Ion implantation facilitated the formation of ceramic phases and amorphous phase on the near surface.•Corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of Cr film after co-implantation were greatly improved.
