Recognition of aggressive episodes of pigs based on convolutional neural network and long short-term memory.

•A deep learning method based on CNN and LSTM was used to recognise pig aggression.•This study directly process video episodes rather than individual frames.•CNN features were input into LSTM framework to extract spatial-temporal features.•The proposed method could recognise aggressive episodes with an accuracy of 97.2%.•A frame skipping approach can improve the accuracy to 98.4% and halve running time.
