1. Learning in clinical workplaces is a two staged process. Each stage requires different strategies to optimize learning. 2. Supervisors use entrustment of autonomy to co-regulate learning in patient encounters. 3. Learners recruit expertise of supervisors to self-regulate their learning in patient encounters. 4. Learning is micromanaged by supervisors and learners in moment-to-moment interactions during collaborative activities to ensure patient outcome. 5. Learning and teaching strategies during patient encounters may be hiding in the moment-to-moment interactions between learners and supervisors.
