A decade of infant neuroimaging research: What have we learned and where are we going?

•Neuroimaging studies of infant populations are growing in number but some shortcomings are still to be addressed.•The majority of the infant neuroimaging studies is under sampled and some periods of development are very seldom tested.•The geographical distribution of the studies shows a dramatical asymmetry in the population tested.
