Rail crack detection using acoustic emission technique by joint optimization noise clustering and time window feature detection

•An improved detection method of rail crack is proposed by using AE technology.•The joint optimization structure is built by LSTM network and k-means clustering.•The better noise clustering result is achieved for eliminating noise signals.•The detection accuracy is improved by crack duration time feature of time window.•The detection ability is verified by the acquired signals.
