The effects of dual modification on structure and performance of P2-type layered oxide cathode for sodium-ion batteries

•The dual-modification strategy of Mg substitution and NTP coating is designed.•NTP is the first time used as a coating material in the cathode materials of SIBs.•This strategy can synchronously stabilize the bulk structure and interface of NMO.•This strategy maintains the particles integrity and facilitates the Na+ diffusion.
