Unpredictable event and internet user activities: a study on network event and social network interference with information entrophy

In recent years, with the rapid development of online user and technology, the internet has been an important part of daily life. The Internet has become an important method in people communication. However, a single event such as internet outage, whether by natural disaster or human may turn our daily in turmoil. In recent years, Online Social Network (OSN) communities have been playing the role of user interaction platforms. With the wide variety of distinctive communities, it attracts a large portion of internet user participation. On the other hand, the BGP update provides a traceable record on area internet activity and outage. With the updates from each Autonomous System, we are able to observe internet activity in a certain area. The different update message may provide a record on certain events, such as internet outage. In this research, we collected and analyzed both internet routing data and social media activity, by looking into the difference between unpredictable event and predictable event. We took a comprehensive investigation within those events, to find out if there exists a method to determine, or even quantize the unpredictable internet event. Also, we would like to find out what have been affected by those unpredictable event, in terms of social media activity. We hope this research may introduce a new way of determining unpredictable internet events, as well as the impact on social activity due to rare unexpected events such as internet service disruptions.
