•“Knowledgeable staff” was the most prevalent topic among the 40 topics identified from reviews on AllergyEats.com.•Five groups of topics from topic correlation analyses: customized orders, staff efforts, menu options, fried foods and oil, and communication.•“Staff efforts” had the highest positive impact on restaurant ratings, while two topics “communications” group had the strongest negative impacts.
