An Effective Construction Pattern of Wireless Sensor Network for Water Quality Detection

This work develops a construction pattern for the wireless sensor network. While existing works have developed various construction methods for water quality detection tasks, they have primarily focused on the establishment of a wireless sensor network in a single water area to collect and transmit data in general and overlooked the combination of multiple water areas, which has geographical limitations. As such, these methods can be suboptimal for monitoring water quality. In this paper, we propose a new framework named WQD, short for water quality detection. Firstly, we perform a detailed feature selection of water quality thoroughly, which is beneficial to the sensor collection. Then we choose the most suitable group from many sensors that can detect these features to construct the sensor network. Thirdly, we determine wireless communication mode suitable for large-scale water quality parameter transmission in space and time as the focus of networking. Finally, we decide the destination of data, that is, the cloud platform as the endpoint of massive data processing and analysis. We conduct extensive experiments based on different wireless sensor network construction pattern to handle water quality detection task, employing well-selected hardware and well-designed software to realize networking and data analysis. Both quantitative results and qualitative analysis verify the effectiveness and rationality of our WQD method.
