•We present a new methodology for RTS (Rapid Transit System) planning and alignment.•We focus on Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area RTS alignment.•We apply space syntax syntactical measures to analyze RTS road alignment.•The RTS alignment is congruent with segments of high through-movement potential.•We emphasize the capacity and relative quickness for RTS impact assessment.
