Limitations of neutrophil depletion by anti-Ly6G antibodies in two heterogenic immunological models

•Incomplete depletion of neutrophils with anti-Ly6G in two inflammation mouse models.•Competition between the depleting anti-Ly6G and detection anti-GR1 antibodies might lead to misinterpretation of good depletion efficiency.•Neutrophil depletion efficacy is context-dependent and relies on the genetic background, organ and disease model studied.•Depletion of neutrophils is associated with increased proliferation of remaining neutrophils.
