Millimeter-wave circularly-polarized substrate-integrated planar discrete lens

A new planar and compact substrate-integrated discrete lens is proposed to achieve high gain and circular polarization in V-band. The antenna is composed of a planar discrete lens based on novel unit cells converting linear to circular polarization and a linearly polarized focal source. Both elements are mounted on the top and bottom sides of a core dielectric, providing more robustness and compactness while avoiding alignment issues and expensive fabrication processes. The measurement results demonstrate a broadside gain of 20.5 dBi at 61.1 GHz and a 3-dB gain bandwidth of 14.1%.
