POCT: Möglichkeiten und Anwendungsbereiche zur athletennahen Sofortdiagnostik im Hochleistungs- und Spitzensport

In sports medicine and science as well as in high-performance sport, investigations are carried out under standardized conditions in the laboratory as well as in the field. A wide range of medical measurement methods are applied. Diagnostic procedures are almost always accompanied by blood analysis, employing both highly complex laboratory procedures and point of care testing (POCT). Although POCT procedures have attracted attention in the exercise science community, the term has not yet been established in this area, and publications of studies with elite athletes and POCT are sparse. Following a key note lecture at the 3rd Munich POCT-Symposium the present article intends to provide an overview of the various questions in sports science applying POCT for the immediate physiological diagnosis of an athlete.
