Analysis of yield components and dry matter production in a simplified soilless tomato culture system by using controlled-release fertilizers during summer–winter greenhouse production

•Controlled release fertilizers (CRF) versus liquid fertilizers (LF) were compared.•Soilless tomato cultures assessed using fruit yield and other characteristics.•CRF significantly reduced nutrient application and excessive vegetative growth.•CRF produced similar fruit yields as LF despite lower levels of nutrient use.
