On the relationships between bibliographic characteristics of scientific documents and citation and Mendeley readership counts: A large-scale analysis of Web of Science publications.

•This study presents relationship between Mendeley readership and citation counts with particular documents’ bibliographic characteristics.•Ordinary Least Squares regression used to assess the relationships between dependent and independent variables.•Compared to citations, readership exhibits relatively higher density values for editorial materials, letters, and news items.•Factors influencing readership and citation counts are broadly similar across all fields.
