A product life cycle ontology for additive manufacturing

•Competitive pressure and diversity of customer demand drive the need for the manufacturing company to have knowledge representation of manufacturing processes.•Ontological representation of products and its life cycle could be one of good approach for integrating data across systems in manufacturing domain.•As the data sharing and integration are crucial, the developed ontologies must able to promote interoperability among data systems deriving from various sources.•Proper development of ontology encourages the re-usability, share ability and extensibility of the new ontology.
