摘要
Emergency contraception with the use of levonorgestrel (LNG) is a safe and effective method to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Reports of pregnancy after failure of emergency contraceptive (EC) pills have been rare. The availability of LNG over the counter, without any prescription, in many countries has made its use very common. Ectopic gestation in case of failure is a known risk. In India, its misuse among the younger age group is a potential threat to their life if such a complication occurs. We are presenting two cases of ectopic pregnancy in young unmarried girls following the use of LNG emergency contraception. Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of an ectopic gestation when EC pill fails. In India, where ignorance is quite a common phenomenon, the health providers should advise all the females about this fact. The need of the hour is an established service network to enhance education and dissemination of information on emergency contraception to the general population.
